Huge loss... what a badass woman. Rest in peace, Jessi.
Just watched her on Leno’s show a couple days ago.

The pursuit of speed claims another Jalop.
Or alternatively
Jet cars remain a bad idea

If we’re going to test jet cars, we should put hamsters in them or something.

Seeing her previous television efforts like Mythbusters and the SpikeTV shows left me thinking she wasn’t much more than another pretty face who can talk about car/fabrication.
Watching this interview completely changed my mind about her.

Such a bummer. I used to watch her build rock crawlers on 4x4 Garage back in the day and she was obviously the better fabricator and welder than that Ian dude, but never stole the show. Super classy. What an amazing life lived though...

Indeed. However, those like her who are -addicted isn’t the right word, but I suppose it works- to the thrill and sensation of high velocities often have a difficult time letting go of that fascination.
The world is certainly worse off without her.

That would be awesome. Not to get all political/cultural/grumpy old man, but women in this country hold Cardi B and the Kardashians up as role models, all while women like Jessi quietly but completely SMASH preconceived and outdated perceptions of what women can or should do... She’s an icon who was never given icon status because she wasn’t an asshole.

Seeing this pop up on the front page was an absolute gut punch. Jesse was/is/will forever be a huge inspiration of mine. Meeting her was a bucket list item of mine, and I missed an opportunity to meet her at Sturgis the last two years. I’m heartbroken that I’ll never get the opportunity again .
Such an amazing person, so sad to see her go. RIP

This is the saddest I’ve ever been about a celebrity death. I remember following her since I was pretty young, and only ever being more impressed the more I learned about her. On top of that we’re not very far apart in age, and I came to learn that she was born and grew up in my state, in one of my favorite areas, the Black Hills, which is a fun almost personal connection. Even though I’d never met her she was so relatable and down to earth, and with even that small amount of personal connection she almost felt like a friend I just hadn’t met yet.

It’s a different mindset when you are dealing with land speed racing. You don’t reach the point of climbing into a car capable of 300+ without knowing several people to have been killed in the name of speed. With her engineering mind Jessie would have looked at the task and the risks, done everything she could to minimize that risk, and then accepted the fact that if something did go wrong she was probably not going to come home. She went out doing something she loved and I guarantee you she would have zero regrets about climbing into the car for that final pass.

Probably because you’re a grumpy old man like me. The fact remains that those two examples have millions of social media followers, tv shows, and millions of dollars all from who they are. Meanwhile, women like Jessi Combs are quietly making magic.

I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t know who she was until now (no TV & limited social... ), but I’m damn well going to make sure my daughters know who she was . Horrible loss of an inspiring person. It hits home in an odd way when people your age die pushing the limits.

It’s taken everything in me not to tear up her at my desk at work this morning (I just read through her family’s statement).
I’d pointed her out to my daughter in the past; I really don’t want to tell her that she died...

I understand.
“Zero regrets” is hard in this kind of situation. No one wants to leave their mom, dad, siblings, partner, other family & friends mourning their death.
Some might argue it’s selfish, but it’s who she was. How do you tell someone not to do the thing in life that gives them the most joy?

No regrets is probably the wrong wording here. Obviously if she knew exactly how the pass would end she wouldn’t have gotten in the car. You wouldn’t find her wishing she didn’t decide to chase this record though.
